Synonims and antonyms


Underline the right word in the brackets. Use a dictionary to find the differences. Subliniaţi cuvântul potrivit din paranteză. Folosiţi un dicţionar pentru a afla diferenţele dintre cuvinte:
A. To bury, inter, entomb, inhume/ to disinter, exhume, uncover
ex. The pirates (buried, entombed) the chest on the island.
I (burried, enterred) myself in a lot of work. The  police have (disinterred, uncovered) a plot against the Prime Minister. Tomorrow is the (uncovering, exhumation) of my grand father. The mummies are (inhumed, entombed) before they are (buried, entombed).
B. Terrible, frightful, appaling, awful, fearful, horrible
When will this (fearful, appaling) war end? He died an (terrible, awful) death. What a (fearful, frightful) journey we had last week! They were (fearful, appaled) at the news. What a (horrible, terrible) thing! A good housewife has a (horror, terror) of dust. The sufferings were (horrible, awful) to behold. It has been (awfully, appalingly) hot this week. I don’t like (horror, terrible) films.
C. Fault, flaw, weakness, mistake, guilt
Her only (weekness, fault) is excessive shyness. He has a (weakness, guilt) for pretty women. Which are the greatest (weaknesses, foibles) of the artists? Of his many (mistakes, faults) the greatest is vanity. She is generous to a (guilt, fault). My memory was at (foible, fault). Whose (guilt, fault) is that we are late? I (mistook, foibled)  you for the mayor. The (guilt, weakness) of the accused man was in doubt. He was (guilty, faulted) of a horrible crime. That’s your (fault, foible); you are too indiscreet. She is very (weak, foible) at Maths. The (guilt, fault) lies in you.
D. To match, suit, fit
He had a (match, fit) of coughing. This train will (fit, suit) us very well. John and his wife seem very (fitted, suited) to one another. You are not a good (match, suit) for him. He is not a steady man: he studies by (matches, fits) and starts. He threw a (fit, suit) because of anger. She almost had a (match, fit) when she saw the bill. These colours are a good (suit, match). Does the climate (suit, match) your health? He (suited, fitted) the picture into a frame. Can we make the punishment (fit, suit) the crime? He is not (matched, suited) for teaching. 
E. Edge, margin, rim, border
His proposal(borders, edges, margins) the absurd. Our garden is(margined, rimmed, bordered) by a stream. The car(edged, bordered) up to the curb. The USA(borders, rims) on Mexico. His winter coat was(edged, margined, rimmed) with fur. There is a (border, margin) of flowers round the lawn. He gained the(margin, edge) of his opponent. He was wearing(rimmed, margined, bordered)-ed spectacles. She(margined, edged) her skirt with lace. The situation(borders, rims) on tragedy. The knife has lost its(edge, margin). I saw many daffodils along the(margin, rim, border) of a bay. Grass grew at the(margin, edge) of the road. There was cold water up to the(margin, border, rim) of the bucket.
